At Hillbrook, Design and Technology is an inspiring, creative and practical subject which enables our students to develop their skills and knowledge in real life contexts or concerning real life issues. Pupils will learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Pupils are challenged in ways that enable them to work independently, through designing, problem solving and creating.
Our curriculum encourages our pupils to look at the world and empowers them to think creatively about ways to improve it. We encourage them to consider their resources and materials so they can create products that are safe and do not harm our environment. When developing products, children will consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. For example, in food technology, pupils reflect on what makes a healthy, balanced diet. Each pupil will get the opportunity to take part in three design technology topics a year (one a term) one of which will be food technology based.
